Return regulation: deportation centers in countries outside the EU
The EU Parliament has voted to start negotiations with the Council of the European Union on the new legal framework for the return of people without the right to reside in the EU. The report on the negotiating mandate suggested, among other things, that deportation centers outside the EU should be used. In the future, deportations will be carried out more easily in so-called “return hubs”. In addition, new incentives should be created for the voluntary return of migrants and rejected asylum seekers should be obliged to actively participate in their return. Attention: The voting results shown on the right only reflect the voting behavior of the 96 German MEPs and not that of all 720 MEPs. The regulation was approved overall with 389 votes in favor to 206 against and 32 abstentions. Of the German MEPs, 50 voted for and 37 against. There was no abstention.
