Looking for guidance as a young investor

Hello guys, I'm currently 22 y/o, just graduated Uni. Over the years, I managed to save up tons of money by living with my parents since my Uni was in the same city. I'm looking to invest quite a bit. I'm new to the stock market and everything, someone recommended that the S&P500 are a great long-term investment option. How trustworthy is this?
